The crumbling of the welfare state and the erosion of the middle class requires a new perspective on our national psyche. Key's dated anthem (scribbled on parchment aboard a ship, dare I say) does not properly reflect today's zeitgeist. With due creative liberty, imagine Key "banging on the drum" in the fiery waters of Baltimore Harbor. His eyes sparkle as national pride streams down his cheek, reflecting the beauty of the Ross flag flying high in the breeze. It is in this spirit that we, the people, inquire of the Office of the President to consider our petition to change the national anthem to "Bang on the Drum All Day."
