In 1976, our government decided to give a minority of our nation an entire month of education, and understanding. While the purpose of this was to help recognize the important achievements of the African Americans, it has instead been a tool of separation between the accomplishments of one group of Americans against the accomplishments of others. Its a source of racial tension in the United States.Removing it isn't an option; by doing so, you send a message to every young African American in the nation that their deeds are no longer important enough to remember. Instead, our nation should add White History Month. Held in July, this holiday would coincide with Independence Day and all of our accomplishments. This month of education will reduce the tension created by Black History Month.
