Eastern Lightning (Dōngfāng Shǎndiàn, 东方闪电) is a million-member religious cult headquartered in China. The group was founded by Zhao Weishan and Yang Xiangbin, a husband-and-wife couple who reportedly now live in the States and continue to lead the organization from US soil.
According to the group's teachings, Xiangbin is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ and she has come to utterly destroy both the Chinese government and anyone who won't respect her rule.
Lightning members have displayed an almost ISIS-like brutality, using torture, seduction, and brainwashing to win converts. Numerous murders and maimings have been committed against those who refuse to join or who leave. The group also inspired the 2012 Chenpeng Village Primary School stabbing.
