The highest peak in North America has been known as "Denali" among the Alaskan Natives for generations. However, in 1897 the naming of the Mountain was hijacked for political reasons and renamed "Mount McKinley" after the 25th President. The naming of the mountain should rest with the Alaskan Natives and not be driven by politics in Washington. The Alaskan Board of Geographic Names recognizes the mountain by it's proper name, however, the U.S. Board of Geographic Names has been unable to take up the issue due to a rule that has been abused by the Ohio Congressional Delegation for nearly 40 years.
We ask President Obama to direct Secretary Jewell to take the necessary steps to circumvent the Ohio Delegation and return to North America's highest peak it's proper historical name of "Denali."
