By extending a hand to this nation, the US would secure for itself a lasting ally in the North Sea. In a time of global discontent, the US needs firm friends abroad. Though Sealand is a small state, its men-at-arms are doughty. And Prince Michael is strengthening Sealand’s military with his expansion of the Knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Sealand. In the age of realpolitik, we must also remember that often the sea urchin wounds more deeply than the whale.
As an Anglophone nation, Sealand is already inclined to the US. Moreover, the story of its founding—seeking freedom across the sea—should resonate with Americans. Prince Roy sought only what every American seeks: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Sealand’s motto is our motto: e mare libertas, from the sea, liberty.
