Once Again Allow the Discharge of Student Loans in Bankruptcy.

Created by J.K. on February 07, 2013

Americans seeking higher education in this country, particularly young Americans, are overburdened with crushing student loan debt. Unlike virtually every other kind of debt in this country, student loans cannot be discharged in bankruptcy.

The unemployment rate for young Americans is abysmal. Even the lucky ones that have jobs are often underemployed, and find repayment of student loans to be difficult if not impossible.

Student loans are not only an inconvenience - they're dangerous for economic growth. People burdened by student loans put off large purchases (cars, homes) and put off starting families - both things that help support the economy.

Bankruptcy was created to help people start over and become contributing members of the economy. Help students out by changing the law.
