People that make mistakes as young adults shouldn't have to pay for it their whole entire life for non-serious crimes (murder/sexual crimes should be exempt from this). Especially one time offenders. Let companies be allowed to do up to 10 year background check so this way people who straightened up their lives can get back to being tax paying citizens instead of having the Government always support them because companies do not want to hire them.
