State residents need to be the voice of their own state.
Most signatures seen on the petitions to secede are from people outside of the state wishing to secede.
Residents do not want to be spoken for and wish to keep the petitions fair by keeping them localized. Citizens should not have a say in the actions taken by any state except for their own.
