Many people already know that Hawaii is the only state where coffee is grown. However, many people don't know that Puerto Rico also grows coffee and was at one time a major coffee producer in Latin America, but there are fewer coffee plantations in Puerto Rico because most of our supply of coffee comes from foreign sources.
It would be good for our economy if more of the coffee that is consumed in the United States was grown here, rather than in foreign countries and the federal government should set the example by serving only American-grown coffee in our Federal Government offices.
I urge the Obama Administration to support American coffee growers in Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
