Independents are 40% of this country's registered voters, but we're locked out of participating in the process that determines our future representatives. It's time to restructure politics and end the partisanship that's hurting our country.11 states have Closed Primary elections where only members of a political party may vote in their Party's primary. The tax payers including Independent Party, or those with No Party Affiliation, finance these primaries with taxpayer dollars. That means that 40% of voters become disenfranchised in primary elections. Yet they still have their taxes used to finance the elections of the Party that they have no say in which candidate should be selected.
