Open a Coral Reef Research Facility at the Johnston Atoll.

Created by G.G. on March 08, 2013

Opening a Coral Reef Research Facility at the Johnston Atoll will promote reproduction and protection of the world's coral reef systems that are quickly vanishing. The world's reefs provide fish for human consumption and prevent calcium erosion leading to environmental decay and disaster.

Johnston Atoll was once a large weapon facility that may be leaching harmful chemicals into the planet's environment due to its central location in the ocean. Various macroalgaes that could be cultivated there are known to filter coal bed methane; and may very well be developed to remove other forms of toxic substances polluting the oceans. These macroalgaes will also remove nitrates and phosphates from the surrounding reef which will prevent invasive algas from blanketing and suffocating the reef.
