Congress has created PROMESA, the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act as a way to create oversight on the task of restructuring Puerto Rico's debt crisis; as well as making it illegal for debtors to sue the Island for said debt. However as the legislation was rushed, most that are aware of the bills, not many, are not aware that the board is made up of members appointed by the president for 3 years, and can only be removed by a president. Therefore giving Puerto Rico and its leadership and say in what happens to their land. Puerto-Ricans are US Citizens, who vote, fight our wars, and are a part of our economy. We the people demand that it's time we acknowledge them as such.
