Pets should be considered a huge commitment, in which all financial obligations should be taken seriously prior to purchase or adoption. The owners who do not pay for their lack of health care for the animals, such as basic vaccines, and routine check-ups, cause needless animal suffering. If pets who are registered through their counties/states, and verified to be up to date an ALL vaccines, were able to be a federal tax deduction, perhaps owners would have more incentive to not only make sure their pets are healthy and happy, but perhaps it will persuade those who are not ready to make that commitment, to wait until they are more ready to, preventing more homeless animals, shelter euthanasia, and pets with low quality of life. A discussion regarding this policy should be opened.
