The recent abuses of power by local police while handling Occupy protesters is only a small sample of the kinds of abuses that happen every day, most of which nobody ever hears about. Oversight and investigation into local police is severely lacking. In effect, local police end up policing themselves.
Police brutality and other abuses of power go against what makes this country truly great--our freedom.
Condemning abuse of power by police is not enough. They must themselves be sufficiently policed to protect the constitutional rights of all citizens.
