Gen. Jim McDivitt performed feats of extraordinary accomplishment throughout his NASA career, including the command of the second Gemini flight on his debut mission (which included the first multi-day mission by the US and the first US spacewalk) and managing the Apollo program for the majority of the moon landings.
However it was his work making sure the LM would fly and his command of the entire Apollo 9 mission that was probably his largest contribution to NASA's moon program and the scientific community.
We believe now is the time to recognize Gen. McDivitt with this award for his NASA service - especially his command of Apollo 9 - as it would be an honor to him, his fellow astronauts, and the entire NASA program - past, present, and future.
