Open a national vote to declassify cannabis as a Schedule 1 drug

Created by Z.M. on May 25, 2013

With rising acceptance of cannabis as a less harmful for a majority of American citizens, along with new research proving the medical benefits for cannabis use, we ask the Obama administration to open a national vote to declassify cannabis and hemp as a Schedule 1 drug, thus legalizing the personal use of cannabis for those over the age of 21. The federal government has spent far too many taxpayer's dollars on a drug war that most find unnecessary.
This will allow cannabis to have the same legal rights and tax codes as alcohol for those who choose to consume cannabis.
Cannabis use should be regulated by the user, and with a national vote, this will allow for popular vote to decide whether America is ready for the legalization of cannabis or keeping cannabis scheduled as an illegal drug.
