open trade with Iran to secure nuclear fuel sources and disarm their proliferation risk.

Created by S.S. on November 30, 2012

If Iran is, in fact, making highly enriched uranium for weapon purposes, wouldn't it make more sense on the part of the US to purchase bulk quantities of the stuff and downblend it to lightly enriched uranium for fuel purposes? You could even sell most of it back to Iran for a net gain of disarming a nuclear proliferation risk, making the Iranian government look incompetent, and seriously filling the Iranian claim of uranium enrichment for energy purposes.
Even if Iran is truly making only nuclear fuel, the US has a growing energy demand that Iran's manufacturing capacity seems quite able to feed. There should be no reason to ignore a potential future ally over current political enemies, especially one as powerful as Iran.
