We urge President Obama to come out in vocal support of the “21st Century Veterans Benefits Delivery Act” (S. 2091), which will help cut the Department of Veterans Affairs backlog. Classified as claims which have taken more than 125 days to be addressed, the VA backlog currently consists of over 325,000 cases.
Crafted by the Senate’s bipartisan VA Backlog Working Group, the bill will modernize and streamline the disability claims process for veterans and provide stricter oversight for claims officials. Still, its chances of passing are slim because of the limited visibility the issue and bill have gotten.
In order to fulfill the promises he made to veterans while campaigning, President Obama must begin to seriously address the VA backlog. Supporting this bill is a necessary first step.
