Oppose categorically any cuts to Social Security, and create a better formula for determining Cost of Living Adjustments

Created by Z.U. on December 28, 2011

We oppose any proposed cuts that would limit the amount of benefits paid to Social Security recipients. This includes Retirement Social Security, SSD and SSI. Further, the current formulation for determining Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) is inaccurate and uses only the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). A more accurate and fairer price index would need to be established. One that takes into account factors such as changes in taxes, health care, water and air quality, crime levels, consumer safety, and educational quality.
