Recently, China's Standing Committee of the National People's Congress decided to limit which candidates will participate in the 2017 elections in Hong Kong. The candidates will be pre-screened and candidates who are not pro-Beijing will be forbidden to run in the elections. This denies the citizens of Hong Kong their right to free elections within their territory and is a sign of China's encroachment on the economically and politically important territory. Democracy is a human right and no country should be robbed of it.
