The Israeli Right is pressing for the release of Jonathan Pollard in return for a Palestinian agreement to continue negotiations while Israel freezes most construction in settlements in the Occupied Territories. Rewarding Israel for compliance with international law would only encourage their lawlessness. The failure to hold Israel accountable imposes a hidden tax on the U.S. and the world.
History has repeatedly proven:
* There will be no peace in the region until a final settlement is reached, and
* Israeli leaders routinely betray the trust of the American people.
To pretend that Israel will negotiate in good faith to end an unlawful occupation on equitable terms would only again confirm the naiveté of our leaders.
Oppose clemency for this spy until a final settlement is reached.
