In H.R. 1735, 2016 Defense Authorization bill, Congress proposed:
Shrinking the size of the current military pension by 20 percent, during a time of war; Automatically creating TSP accounts for all troops, privatizing the military retirement system for Wall Street, not boosting it, and Beginning the government's dollar-for-dollar match of individual troops' out-of-pocket TSP contributions, up to 5 percent of basic pay, that will be an expense troops just don't need. Offering a lump sum payment at the end of 20 years of service, after taxes, can create a hardship later on in life. Congress should be boosting troop's up during a time of war, not making a profit off of them.
