oppose efforts to weaken states' concealed handgun gun laws and make gun ownership laws significantly more stringent.

Created by R.V. on December 14, 2012

It should be more difficult to own a firearm than it is to obtain a driver's license and own a car. If as a society we want to allow citizens to own firearms not only should we require background checks (a system which needs improvement) and registration, but just as we are required to register our cars annually, we should be required to register our guns. Before someone owns a gun, they should be required to take a class and pass a test just as our drivers on the road do. Gun owners should have to cary insurance and be held liable if their gun is used by someone else to do harm. If the purpose of gun ownership is protection then that should not include guns whose purpose is to be able to fire multiple shots at once (the kinds used in the recent US massacres).
