Chuck Schumer is making a habit of opposing the party on issues of international importance. First with his Opposition to the Iran deal, and now by putting himself forward in agreement with the GOP's more radical arm saying that we should bar Syrian refugees.
The job of senate leadership is to pursue the party's policies and to help the party where it can. Instead Schumer has made political hay by opposing the very important work being done by your office, and the party base. This shows he is unwilling to put whatever personal motivation he has aside and represent the party, as such he cannot be the face of the party.
Therefore it is clear that Chuck Schumer's elevation to party leadership in the senate must be opposed.
