On July 25th, 2012, the Consumer Product Safety Commission ("CPSC") sued office-related chotchkey seller Maxfield & Oberton, a small business famous for the high-powered magnets called Buckyballs(TM) and Buckycubes(TM), alleging a "defect in the design, packaging, warnings, and instructions, which pose a substantial risk of injury to the public". The CPSC took this action based on approximately two dozen incidents of injury in children, despite warnings in 5 places on the packaging clearly stating the product is not meant for children and several million units being sold without incident. We call upon the Obama administration to order the CPSC commissioners to drop their suit against Maxfield & Oberton, or force them to resign and replace them with people who will drop the suit.
