We hereby request President Obama and Congress support the forthcoming legislative bill, Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act and enact legislation that will demand the demilitarization of all local law enforcement in the U.S. We further request that there are no assaults on law abiding citizens exercising their Constitutional rights, and no more deaths by police officers. Pointing a weapon must be eliminated, unless absolutely necessary, and if done followed up by complete documentation with so much paperwork that it almost never happens.
Our neighborhoods are not warzones, and police officers should not be treating us like wartime enemies. Any yet, every year, many millions of dollars’ worth of military equipment flows from the federal government to state and local police departments.
