Utah's state government does not view the Clean Air Act as a law designed to protect public health, but as a burdensome set of damaging economic restrictions. This is an interest-driven and flawed understanding that actually limits future economic development and technological advancement in Utah. For instance, while this list is not comprehensive, Utah’s policy damages our tourism industry, discourages clean-energy innovation and repels immigration of educated workers and investors whom fear Utah’s well-known hazardous air. The policy simultaneously coddles older and larger emitters of pollution such as ill-placed, archaic urban oil refineries, discourages more extensive development of affordable mass-transit, and most importantly, destroys the cardio pulmonary health and quality of life.
