In 2007 the EPA mandated all gasoline cans manufactured after 2009 follow certain safety regulations.
These regulations were said to be for the environment and for safety. The intent was to reduce spills by removing the vents and having a mechanically activated spout. The new regulations also sought to reduce the leaching of gas vapors through the plastic materials.
The problem is that these new cans designed to meet these specifications have caused far more fuel to be spilled than the style they replaced through pouring accidents and a lack of a vent. Several reports exist of the cans inflating and risking rupture with the lack of any means for natural self venting on especially warm/hot days.
Please remove this risk to the American homeowner and ask the EPA to revert these rules.
