order the Federal Trade Commission to require Credit Reporting Agencies to remove medical collections accounts once paid

Created by A.R. on May 18, 2014

This petition is to create relief to the American people that have had the misfortune of having medical bills that have gone to collection. The purpose of this petition is to require the Credit Reporting Agencies to remove the records from each persons credit report once they have been confirmed as paid. Since the government acknowledges that many Americans have previously have been under or no insurance, it make sense that relief be provided in this area. Currently, FTC rules require that a collection (regardless of its origin to remain on the credit report for seven (7) years. This hampers the consumers ability to obtain credit or loans. If credit is extended, the consumer is required to explain their medical background which violates HIPAA.
