Order the Investigation and Prosecution of Military Sexual Assaults Removed From the Chain of Command.

Created by K.J. on September 25, 2015

Women (and men) who are sexually harassed and assaulted while serving continue to be abandoned and betrayed by their superiors, the courts, veterans' benefits programs, and Congress.

Increased reporting cannot be waved like a victory flag when still only approximately 1 in 4 victims report and 62% also report perceived retaliation. (DoD Annual Rept on Sexual Assault in the Military, FY2014, pp. 9-10.)

These are domestic crimes and must be handled as such. And in this case, building the walls higher does not strengthen our capacity to defend; it weakens it, as it erodes the very nature of "service" and "duty." Internal change, if any, has proven too slow in coming, and we must stop the sacrifice of our soldiers and veterans to archaic and unnecessary conventions.
