Order the Justice Department to stop fighting California's law banning shark fin soup.

This petition asks the Obama Administration to order their Justice Dept. to stop fighting California's popularly passed law banning shark fin soup. The practice of "finning" (killing sharks only to take the fin) is inhumane, environmentally destructive and a wanton waste of marine resources. Many California Chinese-American organizations have joined conservation and marine science groups in support of this law, so the charge that it is somehow culturally biased is baseless. Fishermen that make their living killing such an animal only for its fin need to change their fishing practices.
