The lowering of the United States National Flag is a sign of respect for the passing of government officials and dignitaries, such as Memorial Day, the flag shall be lowered to half mast until noon.
The death of the 12 United States Marines in the horrific helicopter crash off the coast of Hawaii should be an example of how dangerous the jobs of our service members are on a daily basis, whether training in the United States or fighting the war overseas. It is imperative that we pay our respects as those Marines, who selflessly gave their lives for our freedom.
In accordance with the United States National Code, Title 36, Section 175, subsection (m), this situation meets the criteria to have the flag flown at half mast.
