If you turn on the TV there will be a 24-hr broadcast of the crime scene. "Breaking news" will be delivered about the killer's past and the crime done. This is exactly what needs to be changed.
Violent behavior is glorified in the media, and it inspires copycats. In 1974, David Phillips first noted this behavior. Investigators also find mementos kept by copycats from other killers. In 2003, Steven Stack observed that limiting media coverage on public suicides may have lead to a decrease in copycat suicides. Let's try the experiment again. A little media restriction is well worth saving lives.
