On July 19, 2005, Pfc. LaVena Johnson died while serving in Balad, Iraq. The Army ruled the death as suicide caused by an intraoral gunshot. The Johnson family maintains that forensic evidence points to rape and murder. Questions surrounding LaVena's death linger in the backdrop of heightened attention on sexual assaults in the military. Pres. Obama, you assured the public of "accountability" and "consequences" in these matters. A public that trusts you wants to see the person or persons responsible for LaVena's death to be brought to justice.
