Currently, fire and occupancy permits are required based on whether or not you operate a business, and if you have a building in your operation, they are required regardless of the risk.
It creates financial and timely burden in many businesses that are low or no risk. The city uses them as a tool to generate revenue for their large departments, as I see them as wasteful and corrupted government. I want to see a reform in their codes such that buildings are classified by the risk factors for a leaner enforcing efforts, so it can save tax and permit dollars by small business owners. I believe it will contribute in boosting small businesses.
