Vietnam war hero Colonel Robert L. Howard enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and retired as a full Colonel in 1992. He became the most decorated soldier in U.S. history.
We the signers of this petition find it fitting that his likeness be depicted on a U.S. legal commemorative half dollar coin.
Col. Howard was wounded 14 times during his 54 months of combat in Vietnam. He was awarded 8 Purple Hearts, 2 Distinguished Service Crosses, 1 Silver Star, 4 Bronze Stars, and was nominated for the Medal of Honor three separate times (more than any other soldier in U.S. history), which he was awarded in 1971 for the rescue of a seriously wounded platoon leader who was under heavy fire.
