The recent events regarding same sex marriage have resulted in the effective legalization of same sex marriages in many states around the country. However, it still seems that this is a very important issue to the majority of the country and it is my belief that the interests of the proponents of same sex marriage are being heard because they are being much more active in the media as well as public demonstrations. Since this issue will have far reaching implications in not only civil rights for those directly involved, but also in the education of our children from now on, the United States public should have the right to directly express their opinion in a popular vote on the legality of these bans, which would guarantee that the majority will of the country will be known.
