Across the USA, certain events called rattlesnake roundups occur. All popular roundups in Oklahoma and Texas, in addition to one in Opp, Alabama kill the snakes that they collect, for profit. These roundups have been shown to contribute significantly towards ophidiophobia (fear of snakes), animal cruelty, and rattlesnake habitat destruction, even by people not associated with the roundups who have simply attended them. Oklahoma roundups often fail to provide snakes with adequate shelter and water, with some even ripping out snake fangs, sewing their mouths shut, and placing them in freezers to cool them down. This is cruel and inhumane, yet governer Mary Fallin has refused to act against these roundups. In other states the cruelty is hardly lesser. Please illegalize these cruel practices.
