According to FBI statistics more people are murdered every year by hammers and clubs than by rifles. In 2005 445 people were murdered by rifles and 605 were murdered by a hammer or club. In 2006 438 people were murdered by rifles and 496 by a hammer or club. In 2011 323 were murdered by a rifle and 605 by a hammer or club. Since the 2nd amendment offers protection for firearms but none for hammers or clubs I think it would be more prudent to outlaw hammers and or clubs. Furthermore according to FBI statistics 2 times as many people are murdered using hands or fists than compared to rifles. Since its difficult to outlaw hands and fists because they are physically attached to a person, this might not be the best solution. Maybe the issue isn't rifles but a culture of violence.
