Democracy has become corrupted by professional lobbyists who serve only clients. Lobbyists help pass legislation that hurts citizens. Money drowns out public opinion. Main Street America may not have all the answers, but the Constitution was not written to protect Wall Street and its cronies who continue to get richer by the day.
Half-measures are not enough. Instead of limiting the interaction and transaction of money between elected officials and lobbyists, someone must be brave enough to take action.
Three components to this proposal must be enacted to truly solve this problem:
Eliminate the current lobbying profession and structure. Make it illegal for a former elected official, public servant, or staffer to become a lobbyist. Eliminate corporate campaign contributions.
