We believe that electronic ticketing, such as speed cameras and red light cameras, is primarily designed to raise revenue and does not provide any real safety benefit.
These systems generate large amounts of revenue for both the government and the camera companies and do not provide adequate protection against errors or willful misuse. These systems can cause erratic traffic patterns and rear end collisions as people slow down suddenly to avoid being ticketed.
We propose a federal law requiring all moving violations to be delivered to the offender within 24 hours by a law enforcement officer. This would allow the use of speed cameras and other electronic ticketing devices in a limited capacity, while making it prohibitively expensive for large scale revenue collection efforts.
