Marijuana is a Schedule 1 Drug. A past evaluation by several Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies, including the FDA, SAMHSA, and NIDA, concluded that no sound scientific studies supported medical use of marijuana for treatment in the United States, and no animal or human data supported the safety or efficacy of marijuana for general medical use. Renowned former US Solicitor General Paul Clement argued in Gonzales v. Raich that "there's no question that the overall production, distribution, and possession of marijuana and other Schedule I substances has a profound effect on interstate commerce."
Because of its effect on interstate commerce (and other areas) it is entirely constitutional for the federal government to regulate medical marijuana. Sign and save lives.
