There is no federal law that bans the ownership of wild dangerous animals such as Lions and Tigers in the United States. Common sense would dictate that keeping animals such as these as a pet is a bad idea. However, in several states this practice is completely legal. It is a situation that often ends in tragedy for both the animals and people.
Federal regulations may also be required to stop the breeding of these animals by unscrupulous individuals who target the offspring for the pet trade, quack medicines, side show entertainment and canned hunting. It is estimated there are more Tigers in living in private ownership in the star of Texas than in the wild in India. There are only an estimated 3500 Tigers left in the world. Should there be 10,000 living in the United States as pets?
