Unpaid internships are the gateway into a number of professional fields, but the concept of working for months without compensation is fundamentally wrong. Young adults, already burdened with student loans and the cost of living are forced to choose between living off savings (or off their parents' savings) or taking on a second job to try and make ends meet.
This is the sort of spending that will immediately benefit the economy, as it would go towards paying for necessities such as rent, utilities, loans and student debt.
