Outlaw the use of isolation (SHU, special housing, etc.) in United States prisons to protect the sanity of prisoners.

Created by N.C. on July 24, 2015

Outlaw the use of isolation (SHU, solitary confinement, etc.) in United States prisons. The use of isolation in prisons is proven to increase the suicide rate in prisoners. Isolation increases the recidivism rates by 5%. It's a fact that 64% of all prisoners in solitary confinement are mentally unstable. The people are moved to solitary confinement where 23 hours a day they stay in a 9x10 cell with little to no entertainment and human contact only with the officers who check on them. Solitary confinement is also $12,317 more expensive then general population. Some people are even put in solitary for their "protection" if you are transgender, gay, or are anything that defiese social norms. In conclusion it's expensive, dosnt work, and unsafe for the prisoners and guards.
