With the rise of the internet and rapid dissemination of ideas, stories, and artistic works it is now simple for information to spread. Our copyright laws have not adapted to new conditions and have become outdated.
The corporations who disseminate these products on behalf of their creators have done a terrible job adapting to new situations, partially due to the copyright structure essentially protecting copyright works beyond the time they are likely to be in demand or consequential. Our copyright laws need to be amended to become more in tune with the digital environment.
Limiting the duration of copyright protection, or possibly altering its character, would force copyright holders to create new approaches to dissemination that would better take advantage of today's technology.
