The current Food Stamp and EBT programs permit program recipients to purchase junk food, such as candy, soda, and other items that are not necessities, costing taxpayers millions of dollars annually. Cash aid recipients now use their "EBT Cards" to purchase everything from gum to expensive bottled coffee, candy bars, and other non-food items. The American taxpaying public should not be footing the bill for purchases of any item not deemed a necessity. We are asking that all programs involving public assistance be thoroughly reviewed, and replaced with a system in which only nutritious foods are approved for purchase. Cash aid, which is included in the EBT program, should be used only to purchase items of necessity, not items of luxury.
