The United States was at one time in a race against itself to connect the East and West coast by rail. It was an efficient and reliable form of transportation that allowed people to quickly travel between cities.
Today, because of the Highway System initiated by Eisenhower in the 1950's rail is almost exclusively used by freight companies while personal travel is limited to Airlines and Highways.
Every other first world country has well designed between-city rail systems traveling upwards of 250 km/h (155 mph). Such systems are much faster than traveling in a personal vehicle and far cheaper than traveling via airplane.
We petition Obama to aggressively push for 'A Vision of High Speed Rail in America' to come to fruition.
