Given that nearly 50% of the United States' state laws authorize the use of cannabis for medical reasons, and that cannabis has been shown to ease the symptoms of Crohn's disease, it is cruel and unusual punishment to take custody of the child of a medical cannabis patient suffering from Crohn's, regardless of individual state law.
Shona Banda's son watched her suffer, and become healthy enough to become an effective mother through the medical use of cannabis. The state taking his custody is proof that this issue is now requiring federal intervention, as the disparity in cannabis law is now breaking up families.
This is unacceptable in the United States of America. We must reschedule cannabis and acknowledge its medical value. Shona must be granted custody of her son immediately.
