It is very disheartening that in searching for a way to serve my country as an officer, in any branch of the military, it is not allowed to have dreadlocks. This is very disturbing to me because braids are allowed. I get that for women hair must be neat and off the collar and be able to fit under military helmet and headgear. The fact that to have to conform the texture of twisting my hair (contrary to popular belief, dreadlocks can be washed and cleaned and groomed). I believe that this was a clause to prevent African Americans from entering into the military. Although currently we are not the only race to have dreadlocks, a review of this policy should be done as to allow neat, hair for women that wish to serve.
